Passy may be peaceful and small, but you will find all you need within a short distance.
Restaurants, cafés, bakeries, pharmacy, small supermarket, or, on some days, farmers’ market, are 10 minutes away in Salornay or Joncy.
A larger supermarket in Saint-Bonnet-de-Joux, is located 15 minutes away
Cluny, the famous medieval market town, is 20 minutes away. It has all the shops, fancy or ordinary, you may want, a Tourist Office, and lots and lots of events all year round.
Honestly, you’ll be spoilt for choice in the area. Although very rural, it is packed with lively villages and small medieval market towns. Just drive around, and stop to discover places along the way.
Now, here are a few places I like to go to…
Cormatin, smaller than Cluny, is my favourite for its bakery (the one closer to the church), and the village atmosphere, made lively by the visitors of its wonderful Château...there are restaurants, antiques, crafts and artisans, cafés, restaurants… all on the main street. From that bakery, I buy the ‘tradition’ baguette, that tastes just like my childhood bread, their great cakes… and the icecream and sorbets… OMG, they are fabulous! Try vanille and cassis (blackcurrant) together… swoon!
A good restaurant, close to the house : 7-minute drive, 20 minutes on foot if you run like hell (easier on the way out!) L’Etape Charollaise looks quite ordinary, set along the departmental road. But what you’ll find in your plate is far from (ordinary). Check them out, for a great, authentic culinary experience, at very accessible prices.
